Service Highlight: Outfit Styling

You know the feelings—a spring in your step, shoulders back, and your head held high; these are the side effects of an amazing outfit. We all have one, a go-to look that acts as armor rather than necessary elements worn on a daily basis. How you pair together clothing and accessories creates a relationship between what you are wearing and how you’re feeling.

Research by psychologist, Karen Pine, at the University of Hertfordshire reveal that our choice of clothing is strongly influenced by emotional state [1]. Your outfit (aka armor) visually communicates your intention to either skip or seize the day. That’s right; messages are being transmitted before you utter a word—within 250 milliseconds flash judgements are made [2].

Imagine you want to look and feel your best. Which garments, shoes, and accessories will you pull from your closet? If this decision is overwhelming or you’re feeling uninspired by the contents of your wardrobe, a BU Style Strategist can help with Outfit Styling. During an In-Home Wardrobe Session, your Style Strategist will help you remix and put together pieces you already own. Together, you’ll dive into your wardrobe and strategically identify new looks from your closet. Here is how it works:

Your personal style is the visual message you are projecting—to the world and yourself—every time you get dressed.

Prior to your In-Home Wardrobe Session, you will receive an action plan and a checklist to prepare. Here is a general Outfit Styling list:

—Have all current seasonal items accessible, include basics that could be useful for styling and those in boxes or bins

—Have access to a full length mirror

—Separate garments by category (tops, bottoms, etc.)

—Display the current season’s shoes and accessories for easy viewing

—Set aside 1 to 2 outfits or pieces that are your “go-tos” and/or best represent your style

—Be ready to try on a lot of clothes!

What to Expect During

At the start of the session, your Style Strategist will review your seasonal items and channel your roles, lifestyle, responsibilities, encounters, and goals to create outfits reflective of your style brand. While mixing-and-matching and trying on outfits, you’ll learn how to identify your signature look, dress for your shape, and which silhouettes, colors, patterns, and fabrics compliment your style personalities and lifestyle. Your Style Strategist will photograph the looks giving you confidence to be the best version of yourself in any social or professional situation.
