Meet Our Clients: Meghan Hungate
NYCPersonalStylistImageConsultant.jpg

Meet Meghan Hungate. She has been a BU Style client since 2011. She is an attorney; amazing food orderer (it’s a true talent); knows every lyric to “Hamilton”; impressively smart; she is tons of fun, confident, honest, a loyal friend, brave, and one of the most uniquely special people I know.

First, let me share a story about Meghan and one of the many reasons she is near and dear to my heart:

Meghan was one of my first clients and since has become one of my closest friends. One early thing that I will forever thank her for in our friendship was when I was in the midst of ending a 10+-year relationship in my 20s. I hadn’t been in NYC very long and didn’t have a lot of friends here. It was a Friday evening, and I was in a tough spot and needed to leave a bad situation immediately. I called Meghan for help. Even though we hadn’t been friends very long, without hesitation, Meghan immediately showed up, helped get me out of the situation, and offered her home and friendship to me for as long as I needed it. She’s a rockstar and a total babe! She has consistently been a loyal friend and has helped teach me the power in being courageous, loyal, and “showing up.”

What is your favorite thing about working with Natalie?

“Knowing that I will walk away with a closet upgrade that suits me and doesn’t include any ill-conceived purchases.”

What have you learned about your style through working with BU Style?

”To embrace it and not try to adopt styles that are not me.”

We discovered that Meghan is happiest mixing comfortable & sexy styles. She’s not afraid of pairing a crop top sweater with workout pants & sneakers. Her favorite work dresses are sheath silhouettes. Her style showcases her confidence, rockin’ bod, and impressively fast walking pace (even for NYer!).

It has been my pleasure to be Meghan’s stylist and friend—and to help her reflect her unique amazingness through her personal style!

Hugs, Natalie

BU Style's 2019 Theme: "Stories"

As a child, I was enthralled with a great story and often stayed up WAY past my bedtime reading by flashlight, engrossed in a novel. I loved stories so much that I majored in English literature in college. Our lives are a collection of stories. Each life experience is a sentence, paragraph, chapter, or novel that collectively makes up the series that is our unique, one-of-kind lives.

My mom, Janice Lynn Tincher, 4/1/1939–12/30/2018

I decided on the 2019 theme of “Stories” midway through December. Just days later on 12/30/2018, my sweet mom unexpectedly passed away. Since this tough loss, my mind can’t stop thinking of stories with her: watching her & my dad dance the Jitterbug in the kitchen (they were high school sweethearts); the way she’d look at every little child and say so sincerely, “Oh, how precious!”; how she would read me bedtimes stories as a child every night, kiss my cheek, and say, “I love you & Jesus loves you, too” . . . She was the kindest, sweetest, most loving person I’ve ever met. This Hamilton song title keeps coming to mind: “Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story?” My mom’s story has become part of me, my siblings, my dad, her friends, her grandkids. We can all tell her story and embody her kindness and love to carry on her legacy.

I wore a necklace of hers to her services that I remembered her wearing often when I was a child. I believe it was also her mother’s. It’s not a fancy or expensive necklace. In fact, it’s just plastic costume jewelry. But when I wore it, I remembered times my mom wore it. I saw her smile and laugh. (She had THE BEST laugh.) I saw her vividly, and the necklace was like a security blanket and her warm hug enveloping me. It helped me physically feel her presence to get through a tough time.

Our style & outfits are one medium to share our story. Before we even speak, they start giving context clues to who we are or how we are feeling that day. Clothing and accessories remind us of different chapters and paragraphs of our life story: first job, the first date, the days you got bad or good news—what you were wearing when . . . (insert life event). Brands and the founders behind them have stories and messages to share. We can visually create a complex narrative through our wardrobe and how we choose to wear it.

In a world of fast fashion, swiping right and left, scrolling up and down, we at BU Style want to pause more often and think about the stories behind the outfits we create, the brands we work with, and the clients, colleagues, and all with whom we rub shoulders daily. Stories breathe life and meaning into the seemingly ordinary or common; they connect us to one another; they help us be more sympathetic and empathetic. This year, we look forward to creating deeper connections by sharing stories of all kinds with you—and we hope you’ll share yours with us.

With love, Natalie

What have you learned about your personal style through working with BU Style?

“I've learned that my style is a reflection of my personality, and it is as unique as I am. I've also learned that my personal style evolves over time.”

What is your favorite thing about working with BU Style?

“My personal stylist, Natalie, has a combination of qualities that I find exceptional. First, she is a master of her craft and technically competent in what she does, she understands fit, fashion trends, and what works for each client. Second, she is very committed to my satisfaction, she is flexible and listens to my needs. Lastly, she is a pleasure to work with—very friendly and professional.”

Do you have any favorite experiences / memories with BU Style? If so, please share!

I love each step of the experience. First, streamlining my closet and getting rid of what's not working for me is truly liberating. Then, stepping into the stores and finding the fitting rooms ready with items that Natalie pre-shopped is a real treat. Lastly, the fun of putting pieces together in the styling session. However, my favorite part of all is the convenience of having my look book for inspiration, whether I am packing for a business trip or just getting ready for work in the morning!

“I lead with my heart and love with everything in life. So I need everything I do with my clients to also feel that way.” – Natalie Tincher

I had the honor of sitting down and chatting style, business growth, personal growth, and empowerment with my friend and founder of Point Road Studios, Sharon Lipovsky. This lady knows how to get to the meat and potatoes of things, ask the right questions, and create an space of support and comfort. It was a blast!
